Our audience member raised a question regarding the use of a nuclear weapon in 1815. Our fact-checking revealed a catastrophic event in 1815 that indeed had a profound impact on many parts of the planet. The event was the Mount Tambora volcanic eruption that caused casualties in the immediate aftermath of the event and perhaps for a decade afterward because of food shortages. It is thought to be the largest volcanic event in recorded history.

The event has been useful in understanding what cataclysmic events would follow the use of the current capabilities of a global nuclear arsenal. The casualties are incalculable from the blast, the inability to grow crops, and radiation sickness among other things such as contaminated water and soil.

It is a topic that the Roots Watering Hole podcast series may address in future episodes along with other soil-related topics that should concern us all. Dr, Akilah's expertise will be a guiding light on soil-related topics. Soil is along with water and air the most important elements to life as we know it. A United Nations report that should be taken as seriously if not more seriously that the threat of nuclear warfare is that we may only have about 60 years of topsoil left at current rates of topsoil loss...
